A vigilant truck driver’s observant eye and swift action in St. Louis, Missouri, led to the rescue of a shivering puppy left in a ditch by the road. Unable to stop for the pup himself, the driver immediately contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis, setting off a chain of events that would change the puppy’s fate.
Responding promptly, Stray Rescue found the brown and white puppy trembling in the ditch and named her Odella, in honor of the truck driver, Odell, whose call saved her. Despite her injuries, Odella greeted her rescuers with enthusiastic tail wags, showcasing her friendly nature.
Medical examinations revealed that Odella had suffered a dislocated hip and a broken foot, likely from being struck by a vehicle. At six months old, her road to recovery seemed daunting, but thanks to Odell’s intervention, she received the urgent care she needed.
Doctors realigned Odella’s dislocated hip and secured it with a splint to preserve her leg. Despite complications from an additional femur fracture, after several months of dedicated care, Odella made a full recovery and regained her ability to run on all fours.
Throughout her recovery journey, Odella found a loving foster home with Donna Lochmann, Chief Life Saving Officer at Stray Rescue, who ultimately couldn’t part with her. Now thriving in her forever home with Donna and her other rescued pets, Odella enjoys life to the fullest, delighting in toys and treats, all thanks to Odell’s compassionate act. 🐾❤️
