Scout didn’t just visit once or twice. He made several daring escapes, scaling fences and crossing a highway to get to the nursing home. Once there, he would sneak through the automatic doors and curl up on a comfy leather couch in the lobby. It was as if Scout was saying, “This is where I belong.”
A New Home Across the Street
The nursing home staff noticed Scout’s frequent visits. At first, they returned him to the shelter. But Scout kept coming back. It became clear that there was something special about the nursing home that made Scout happy and calm. The staff decided to let him stay. “When Scout continued to show up here, we thought maybe it was meant to be,” said Jennifer Martinek from the nursing home.
Stephanie Elsey, a clinical care coordinator, added, “We’ve welcomed him to be a part of our family. This is where he belongs. He chose us.”
Scout, the Caregiver
